Nuffield Health Taunton Hospital opened in 1974 as a small private unit to serve the local community and is now established as one of the leading providers of private healthcare in the south west region.
There are 3 fully equipped operating theatres and radiology facilities. In the clinic rooms there are fiberoptic nasendoscopes to examine the inside of the nose, sinus openings, larynx (voice box) and pharynx as well as a stereo microscope for intricate ear examination. Hearing tests and tympanograms (check if the ear drum is moving or if there is fluid behind the ear drum) can be performed during the consultation.
Mr Chisholm is recognised by all the major medical insurance companies (BUPA, BUPA International, AXA PPP, Norwich Union (Aviva), WPA, Standard Life, Pruhealth Cigna, Saga, Medisure etc.) Patients are strongly advised to contact their Insurance Company prior to their appointment to confirm their cover and to obtain a preauthorisation number which will ease the reimbursement process.
Please bring the details of your Insurance Cover when you attend your appointment (Membership Number, Group or Company Number as relevant.) With preauthorisation we are often able to communicate directly with the Insurance Company on your behalf. Without preauthorisation, bringing proof of Insurance Cover may help in direct billing of your Insurance Company.
Bank transfer, cash and personal cheque are accepted. Card payments are not. A receipt is available to claim reimbursement from Insurance Companies where appropriate.
Approximately one third of patients seen do not have health insurance. For many ‘self pay’ is an attractive option. There is an initial consultation fee of £180, on top of these there is frequently a separate charge made payable to Nuffield Health for use of the nasendoscope.
The NHS and private health sectors are not mutually exclusive. Many patients like to have the rapid access and less time pressured environment of the private sector to discuss their ENT problems and treatment strategies whilst then changing back to the NHS sector for any operations etc. Although this does not help you ‘queue jump’ the NHS waiting list it does reduce the anxious time between GP referral and consultation.
Everyone finds visits to doctors and hospitals stressful. We do our best to make you feel at ease. Upon arrival at The Nuffield you will be shown to a pleasant, open reception room. Here, new patients will be asked to complete a brief registration form.
We strive to ensure that you are seen punctually and enough time is given to get to the bottom of the problem. Specialist investigation facilities include a stereo microscope for ear examination, micro-suction equipment, fiberoptic flexible nasendoscopes as well as audiometry and tympanometry. All are performed by Mr Chisholm himself.
Because of the availability of all this equipment, a thorough assessment and treatment plan can usually be achieved at the initial consultation.
Sometimes further tests are necessary. These include MRI and CT scans, barium swallows, allergy tests and blood tests. These will all be arranged at your visit for a convenient time and date.
